So I’m sitting here looking at the beautiful blue sky thinking about my plans for this weekend.

I won £250 on the lottery this week so I think a spending spree is due, I also think I might reinvest some of that in a flutter on the National!  If you’re thinking of joining in then I’ll be over at Betfred because they’re giving us free bingo too!  Find out more here.

I’m finding it hard to pick a style for this summer… do I go with the ever so stylish 50′s babe, with their classic red, whites and blues?  Or the chilled out festival chick style?  Hmm… why can’t I have both!

Well if I’m thinking about this weekend I think I’m going to go with festival chick.  And if I’m thinking boho there’s no better place than Joe Browns!  Not heard of it?  Well you’ve been missing out!

And of course if the weather turns a bit nippy, a boho scarf is always good to have around.

Petite Summer Sizzlers

So back in 2008 I looked around for Maxi dresses for petite women and at the time I would have been totally against them… well a trip to Australia later and I love them.  They’re not only slimming but they can also make you look taller… but you need to get it right!

Here is the best example of a bad Maxi Dress – Melissa Joan Heart at 5’2″ she is definitely petite but she’s gone against the ‘rules’ and left us thinking where did she get these frocks from?

Now if I was to pick the perfect example of a petite outfit, it would have to be this one from Eva Longoria. The nude peep toes give the legs length as mentioned in this post. Her fabulous dress falls just about the knee giving her full length of both her body and her legs and the v-neck elongates her neck giving the illusion on height.

However Eva also does the Petite Maxi Dress really well.  There’s a lot to be learned from the Desperate House Wife.

Petite Maxi Dress top tips:

Keep the line of the dress straight

As you can see from the pictures above Melissa’s dresses come out from her waist where are Eva’s skims her body giving her length to her body.

Keep hems long – to the floor even

Eva’s hem on her dress is touching the floor giving the illusion of height where as the black dress Melissa is wearing cuts her off at the ankles making her look shorter.

Simple necklines

Melissa’s black dress and Eva’s maxi dress are both good examples of what the top of a maxi dress should look like where as Melissa’s other long dress has a wider line over the shoulders making her look more top heavy and this follows down her body making her look larger than she is.

Here’s my top tips from your online high street (the images make them look short, but they’re long I promise!)…

Next have a massive petite collection. When you go to their site search by product and then you will find all of the petite clothing in all of the collections. If you pick the petite collection button then you will miss out of some key items. (All my links will take you to the right place)

It looks like Next do sizes 6 to 16 on their site. Not as big as some others but should cater for most.

Next gets a massive 4.5 out of 5. I would hate to give it a 5 as it would have nothing to strive for, but I’ve got to say that apart from only going to a size 16 it’s pretty much perfect!

Next Petite Collection

I was always under the impression that Wallis was full of stuffy suits and boring tops but it turns out I was wrong. It’s great, I especially love the floaty summer tops they have on there.

Does it have it’s own petite clothing collection?

Yes, Wallis has it’s own petite range clearly labeled in the right hand navigation when you get to the site.

What sizes does it offer?

Wallis’ petite range comes in sizes 6 to 18, not as comprehensive as some sites but definately a wide enough range of petite size clothing for most.

What is Wallis’ delivery policy and costs?

Wallis are now offering free standard delivery on all orders over £70. A little higher than other stores but with a slightly higher cost than some of the other stores per item that’s only a top and a skirt. The standard delivery cost is £4 and next day is only £5 so if you don’t manage to get to the £70 for free delivery you could always go for that.

And what about their returns policy?

You have 14 days to return an item and to do this you have to go to their site and download a form to send along with it, seems a little complicated but I suppose if you want to send your things back then you have to do it. The good thing is that its free to return the items you order.

The other option is to return it to store but I would reccommend taking the order form with you.

What offers do they have on?

They have a 10% off offer for giving them your email address, you can unsubscribe at anytime so I can’t see a reason not to do this!

Navigation: They have a really simple left hand navigation with some key functional links at the top.

Product Page: Once you get to this page you’ll find all of the information about the product. This includes the materials used, sizes available, and even details of returns and delivery options within the product page.

Shopping Basket: When you select your size you just select add to shopping bag and then a pink box drops down telling you exactly what is in your shopping bag. This is also showed in the top right of the page.

Checkout: Just click on the checkout button and then you’ll be taken to you shopping bag. Here you can choose to remove products that you no longer want. When you are happy with your order click on proceed to checkout and then if you are a new customer you will need to set up an account. There are only 3 steps to checkout and you’re done! Like all sites listed on Yo Shorty their is a lock symbol on the checkout page so you know all of your safe.

And what’s your favourite bit of petite clothing on there then?

This petite shirt dress has recently been reduced to £30 from £40 and is perfect for work or a quiet few drinks at the pub.
